"Have regular hours for work and play; make each day both useful and pleasant, and prove that you understand the worth of time by employing it well. Then youth will be delightful, old age will bring few regrets, and life become a beautiful success, in spite of poverty."
Chapter 11 "The Experiment"
In this chapter, the sisters run an "experiment" where they do no work for an entire week. The above quote is the lesson they learn after that week yields such boredom as to make them so frustrated that they react with wanting days full of hard work. Marmee's words of wisdom are, yet again, words I wish I'd heard as a child. So simply put, and yet invaluable. I hope to remember them in the Fall as I'm getting my masters, struggling to make rent, and missing my best friend in Philadelphia.
